Thornhold

Thornhold is a fortress and waypoint on the High Road, on the south side of the Mere of Dead Men. The fortress is occupied by soldiers from the Shield Dwarf Stoneshaft Clan, who keep an eye on the immediate area for Waterdeep. It is the last stretch of civilization before passing into the Mere of Dead Men, if you count there being pretty much nothing there as civilization.
